Before getting started make sure you have a clean and uncluttered work surface. Plan ahead so that you have all the time you will need to prepare your prints and insert them into your portfolio. If you are using our drilled and scored paper, do not order just the bare minimum. Count on doing test prints to get perfect placement and quality. Visit moabpaper.com for printer profiles on the 180# bright white Entrada.

SHEET PROTECTORS
Available in either polyester (fig. 1) or polypropylene (fig. 2), these plastic sleeves will hold and protect your print. Sheet protectors can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and a soft cloth. Rotating sheet protectors within your book will help avoid concentrated wear. Sheet protectors are subject to wear and tear and should be replaced regularly to keep your portfolio presentable. One print per side is the recommended maximum, and if you are displaying pages on both sides, we recommend removing the black liner.

MYLAR HINGES
A great alternative to sheet protectors, mylar hinges (fig. 3) allow you to bind your images into your portfolio without adding a layer between your prints and the viewer.

It is typical that a 0.25" to 0.5" gutter (the space between the printed area and binding) be observed when mylar hinges are used. Follow the steps below when attaching your print to the mylar hinge. For accuracy when placing pages to the hinge, we recommend using the Lost Luggage Hinge Assembly Template.

USING YOUR HINGE ASSEMBLY TEMPLATE
Step 1: using your screw posts and Hinge Assembly Template,
position your Mylar Hinge so that it is secured with the holes to the left.

Step 2: remove protective strip from adhesive (fig. 3)

Step 3: attach left side of print to the adhesive, giving yourself an appropriate gutter

Step 4: press in place

SPACERS
A spacer is a 3/4" wide strip of pre-drilled 1/32" white cover stock. When filling your book with prints attached to mylar hinges, we recommend interleaving each mylar hinge with a spacer.

DETERMINING THE PROPER GUTTER WIDTH
Creating a gutter (the space between the printed area and binding) is the best means for achieving a portfolio with pages that lie flat. Consider the relationship between the gutter and the number of pages: if you add more pages, you will need a wider gutter, which will result in trimming your pages. Refer to the chart below as a guideline for measurements when trimming your pages. Exact specifications may vary depending on your paper weight. It is the responsibility of the user to pretest and determine the dimensions most suitable for his or her portfolio.

LOOKING GLASS EXTENDER KIT
An extender kit allows the portfolio to expand or contract to accommodate the desired number of pages. The kit consists of 0.25" and 0.125" extenders that can be added to your existing posts. When the pages are flush with the top of the desired post, you have selected the correct height.

ARSENAL EXTENDER KIT
As with your portfolio, your Arsenalª is made to expand to accommodate your book. Your standard size Arsenalª (as it arrives to you) is set to fit a Looking Glass of up to 1.25" thick. Note that your portfolio should slide in and out of your Arsenalª with ease, and be aware that it is quicker to expand the thickness of your Looking Glassª than it is to expand the thickness of your Arsenal. Your extender kit consists of (13) 0.75" couplings, (13) black 0.5" set screws, and (13) black rubber washers. You will need an 0.125" hex-head screwdriver and about 15 minutes to complete the expansion of your slipcase.

step 1: use your 0.125" hex-head screwdriver to loosen your screws from the top of your Arsenal

step 2: remove the top panel, including the top 3 black rubber washers.*

step 3: add black 0.5" set screws half-way into couplings (about 2 clockwise spins)

step 4: first add one black washer then screw on the 0.75" couplings

step 5: place the top back on top your newly expanded slipcase and secure the screws with your hex-head screwdriver.

*make sure to keep a minimum of 1 washer on the top and bottom of your Arsenal couplings.
